All early jabbering from the days of my 'innocent' youth !!

Freeway

The road of life is long and hard, don't care that place to be.
But when I was a Daddy's boy my Daddy said to me.
You gotta get yourself a car and head on down that line
I taught you good now do it right and abide by all the signs.

I met a man who had a car he looked pleased said how d'ya do
He saw me commin a mile away I thought his words were true
It was woman owned, got a ticket on in fact it looked real good
Said the smoke will go when it's warmed right up, check this out I've popped the hood.

We did the biz and I cruised on out I thought with plenty style,
but it aint so cool when you're out of gas as I was in half a mile.
Well I filled it up and put a pint of oil in that son of a bitch
And it didn't take long to find it out to have a car you gotta be rich

Well I tried it on for quite some time in fact sometimes all day
I'd have the motor runnin and the music on but cars all in my way.
I'd sit there quiet in that queue screamin in my head
And if I made a move outside that line the man would have me dead

I don't dig it at all with that compromise to be in and not be seen
So I put the red light on that day I ran out of the green
I stood outside and looked back in. Saw what I had to do.
Tune in, turn on and back on out before the rent is due.

Well I set to clean and polish that car had to get that thing to rights.
I set the bait and cast the line and waited for a bite
Another sucker came on down with money in his hand
Looking for to sell his soul for a castle made of sand

Well I said my piece and backed on out and left it up to him
He didn't see me getting out as he was getting in.
I counted his green and said thank you as he joined the other fools
They is just like him does what he do obeyin all the rules

Well I didn't get no peace at all driving down that line
So I built myself a motorcycle. Now I sure feel fine.
I go where I please I got it all right aint gotta live no lie.
Gonna take from you nothin as I ride up to the sky

Personal

I like my life though single I am suffering some pain
And I'm looking for a lady for to love who feels the same.
I'm not too easy to get on with, that I'll say is true
But I will promise compromise if the right one's you.

And if it's you, how my love would be true.

I'm gonna tell you all about me. I'll tell you how it is.
My life is like a lemonade that hasn't got a fizz.
I've been around for a quarter century still got a lot to see
I'm a dark haired six foot Scorpio need a reason for to be.

Couldn't it be you? Listen here I'm not through

Don't like to go to pubs or discos cause I'm on my own
I haven't got much money I am buying my own home
I like to listen to music when I'm feeling blue
From Motorhead to Chopin you would have to like it too.

Couldn't this be you? If it is I'm talking to you.

I'm gonna ride my motorcycle in the pouring rain
Would you sit there behind me and get wet and not complain?
I want you to support me when I feel like falling down
I want you to come flying when I'm high and off the ground.

Are you listening now? I'll continue anyhow.

I don't want to have to talk too much. Do you understand?
I want to feel it's common knowledge when we're holding hands.
Don't want to look at others when you're by my side.
And have the fear that you will leave cause your not satisfied.

Do I ask too much? Will I know loves golden touch?

I don't want to have to hide me behind a wall of lies
I just want to be real open with you till the day we die.
I've got some strange beliefs I'd really like to share
Without having to suffer long and disbelieving stares.

Could I speak the truth to one such as you?

Now if you are still listening I'll tell you what I'll do.
I would give you all my loving and true I'd be to you.
For all you'd give to me I would give back more to you.
And ours would be a love unknown save but for a few.

If I could find you I would love.
If I could find you I would love to live for you.

Dominion Of Love

I have me a tale to tell this world to decry
Of life's ambiguity but lived through to die.
A tale of my own true love there was none such as she
I fasted of lovers' fruit till she picked me.

For she was a modern girl with life in her eyes
She was a modern girl no wish to disguise.

I lived through the single life time after time
Dreaming of loveliness no hope to find
But dream you a dream today tomorrow you'll see
Whether wakened or sleeping how real it can be

For she was a modern girl with life in her eyes
She was a modern girl no wish to disguise.

I sheltered from Aprils rain beneath a tree.
The heavens did open and I her did see.
We spoke to each other and walked in the rain.
The wood of that sheltering tree had kindled the flame.

For she was a modern girl with life in her eyes
She was a modern girl no wish to disguise.

We met one another once more and again.
And love did uncover, in truth, not a game.
Our feelings did conquer words need not be said
And love became lover when took unto bed.

For she was a modern girl with life in her eyes
She was a modern girl no wish to disguise.

That summer did realise the hopes of those past
But we two together knew not those so fast
The sun in a black sky eclipsed up above
Unable to stare at the light of our love

For she was a modern girl with life in her eyes
She was a modern girl no wish to disguise.

We'd be true to each other did both of us vow
And made love to each other as true lovers know how.
Our bodies entwined as one saw we no need
to think of our future and how it would be.

For she was a modern girl with life in her eyes
She was a modern girl no wish to disguise.

Convention rejected she'd not be my wife.
No less would our love be true and to the new life.
We made our plans, built a home, though of two names
And made preparations for childish games.

For she was a modern girl with life in her eyes
She was a modern girl no wish to disguise.

The spring of life's miracle now drawing near
The joy and the beauty were replaced by fear.
The birth would endanger the mother to be
One life for another was the doctor's decree.

For she was a modern girl with life in her eyes
She was a modern girl no wish to disguise.

Words of termination would she not endure
The life held within her was worth to her more
My child. My love. My life. One and all.
Each part is the other oh God hear my call.

For she was a modern girl with life in her eyes
She was a modern girl no wish to disguise.

I placed on her mother's breast the child in my hands
And knew then the beauty that God could command.
Life's kiss she bestowed to the child she had bore
And bearing a smile returned to Gods store.

For she was a modern girl with tears in her eyes
She was a modern girl would for her could I die.

God is love; love is life and a constant in time
And my love will live on in that daughter of mine
And when she is older I'll tell her no lie.
That we live life to find love and then onto die.

For she is a modern girl with life in her eyes
She is a modern girl no tears for her cry.

Puttin On

I got dragged out of bed at 5 o'clock one day
By a knock on the door and the milkman did say
I am sorry to wake you, but I have gotta be paid
And I said to him man you must be puttin me on.

Now I gotta letter in the post that day
From the man at the gas co. and he did say
You've not paid the bill, we're gonna cut you off.
And I said to him man you must be puttin me on.

Then I put my radio on that day
And the man on the news I heard him say
It's a government dictate your taxes have gone up
And I said to him man you must be puttin me on.

Well I got on my bike to go to work that day
and a man passing by stopped by me to say
You have got a problem. You've got a flat tyre there
And I said to him man you must be puttin me on.

So I went to go and catch a bus that day
The driver looked mean and he did say
If you aint got the change you're gonna have to walk
And I said to him man you must be puttin me on.

Well I got into work a little late that day
Made the boss somewhat angry and he did say
That's the last time you're late.Once more you're out of a job
And I said to him man you must be puttin me on.

Well I went to a shop at dinner time that day
And the man at the counter he did say
You want a puncture repair kit? It's gonna cost twenty pounds.
And I said to him man you must be puttin me on.

Now I fixed up the tyre later on that day
Took a ride and a policeman stopped me to say
I am booking you for what you're gonna do.
And I said to him man you must be puttin me on.

I got hit of my bike by a car that day
And the driver bent down to me to say
I am sorry mate. I just did not see you.
And I said to him man you must be puttin me on.

I was drinking a beer in a pub that day
And a stranger came over to me to say
You looked at me! I'm gonna lay one on you.
And I said to him man you must be puttin me on.

I was lying there bleeding in the gutter that day
And the man who'd just hit me I heard him say
I done that to you cause of the way you dress.
And I said to him man you must be puttin me on.

Well they called out a doctor for me that day
He refused to look at me I heard him say
I am not touching you. You just might have AIDS
And I said to him man you must be puttin me on.

Well I went to a church later on that day
Saw the vicar there and he did say
You've got to see that it's true. My God loves us all
And I said to him man you must be puttin me on.
you must be puttin me on.

Within Without

I sit and look at man his world and all that he could be
And I'm rendered into silence as the tears well up in me.
I care not for this race I am and care it not for me
But no man can be an island and no teardrop be a sea

I am within. Within where am I. I am within. Within I am.

I think I'm not like other men. I think therefore I am.
But think we not enough of love and of our fellow man.
The lessons of past times not learned remember us not we
of the pain and of the suffering of men like you and me.

I am within. Within where am I. I am within. Within I am.

The horrors of a million lives we know now and yet more
But learned we not to make of this a world worth living for.
The barriers between ourselves we build upon each day
And make of life a torment in which many cannot stay.

I am within. Within where am I. I am within. Within I am.

Still fighting brothers by the inch oer hills and valleys green
Remembering not for every blade of grass there's a war already been
We love to love all those who come to follow in our way
But don't we care to give the love to those our game wont play

I am within. Within where am I. I am within. Within I am.

We shrug off rain like a babies tears and look we not to see
It's the tears thereof the innocent that are raining down on we.
They cry to us on windswept nights to look upon their chains
But we within our petty lives look out for petty gains

I am within. Within where am I. I am within. Within I am.

A child goes to school to learn his maths and history
But those numbers are not real to him like the deaths he will not see
As men they'll think that a childs life's cheap his starving they will cure
But to save them's too expensive when they're counted by the score

I am within. Within where am I. I am within. Within I am.

Old men will tell of times gone by and of their misspent youth
But is that time not wasted when they fail to tell the truth.
Old women worry of heir age and of their beauty too.
But ageless would their beauty be if they lived for love forsooth

I am within. Within where am I. I am within. Within I am.

So many lives cast down in pain and more in misery
Cannot our anger break the mould and thereby set them free
The thought is but a simple one not very hard to be
Bt man has in his nature that we all shall not agree

I am within. Within where am I. I am within. Within I am.

I sit and look inside my mind four walls is all I see
But I can look out through the window at me looking in on me
Cast in amongst the sands of time a shell I see as me
But know I when the storm shall break the sand I soon will be.

I am within. Within where am I. I am within. Within I am.

I Aint The One

Well I saw you standin baby. Standin there and lookin free.
And I saw that you were crying and your tears washed over me.
Well I came on over to you, asked you what the matter was
And you said that it was nothing you were cryin there because

You didn't know nobody that you really wanted to
You didn't know nobody who knows what you do.

Well I listened to your story and I felt I understood
And I saw you had stopped crying and you looked to me real good.
So I asked if you would like to take a drink and dine with me
I know I sure aint nothing special but I know how it can be.

When you know nobody that you really want to
I don't know nobody who knows what I do.

Now one thing lead to another and we sure got on real fine
And you gave yourself to me you didn't read between the lines
You thought that I was the one who is thinking like you do
And I knew that I wasn't but didn't know how to tell you.

That I know nobody that I really want to
I don't know nobody who knows what I do.

No I didn't want to hurt you I couldn't help what I did do
I'm gonna make me no excuses just gonna say that we are through
I neither lied nor told you the truth I simply did what you wanted me to
I'd have to compromise too much and lie my love to live with you.

Cause I still know nobody I really want to
I don't know nobody who knows what I do.

Well I saw you standin baby. Standin there and lookin free.
And I saw that you were crying and your tears washed over me.

Cause I still know nobody I really want to
I don't know nobody who knows what I do.

I Am Me As You Are You

Chorus
I am me as you are you
Let me live my life as I do you.
I'll not deny my fellow man
His freedom of choice as best I can

I am me as you are you
But you think you've got three where I've got two
You always seem to act real cool
You look on me like I'm a fool

You criticise the way I dress
If it's cold outside I wear a vest.
You drink get drunk and out of your head
I smoke my stuff and go to bed.

You say you don't like the length of my hair
Would you say the same if my head was bare
You call me gay with a ring in my ear
To shave and wear perfume seems to me queer.

You don't like the music I'm listening to
If you weren't a blind man would you listen here too.
You don't seem to listen to what I say
If I'm talking to you I guess it's ok.

You pontificate that I don't talk good
Suffice to say it's understood
You think that I've got an attitude
It seems I'm a mirror to those who are rude.

You disagree my political choice
At least I listen when yours is voiced.
You say you don't like the friends I keep.
I say to you your friendship is cheap

To pay for a woman does you disgust
I don't demean the objects of my lust.
You say things are hard but you've got your wife
I live no compromise, the single life.

You say you earn more money than me
I say that money can't buy what's free.
You call me a heathen not going to church
That a Christian necessity does God besmirch.

Completely Non Descript Blues

Well I woke up this morning and I found I wasn't dead
Well I woke up this morning I had to struggle out of bed
And when I looked out the window it was another rainy day.

Well I went to the mirror my eyes were sunken in my head
And I felt like a sinner you gotta run to be lead
But if you're gonna be a martyr you can't put the gun to your head

So I thought of the meaning of what will be meant to me
And I thought of the actions that have meant this misery
But you know that it aint nothing to what your eyes can see

Oh now don't you say nothing to me of what cannot be
No you cannot say nothing of what you'll never be
But that really don't help me cause I gotta make you see

I can't help thinking of all the books you read
Its a mystery to me what's going on in your head
I can't see all that learning is helping those living dead

Do you not feel the pain of a hunger deep inside
Can you still play the game when we know you have lied
Can you hold your head up and look your maker in the eye

You're the one with the power to hold the reaper at bay
But you don't seem to want to if at all not today
But I'll make it clear to you we only got till yesterday

So when you're safe and buried and your family's outside dead
Will it still seem the same as your lying in your bed
Can you not see it now all we need's to be fed

I can't say nothing more but there's so much to be said
And that seems to be the problem can't put the words in your head
But when you're playing your theatre why don't you try my play instead.

Did you wake up this morning see the rivers had run dry
Did you see this world burning in the blinking of your eye
Don't my words to this sorrow really make you wanna cry

My tears quench the thirst of the birds in the sky
And I'll not be the first to cry blood for the lies
But can't you see the meaning you can make it any day

Well I've done sung my song and god knows I aint wrong
Just you listen for the bell toll cause for you it won't be long
But I guess I'm only dreaming cause what will be will be for you and me!

A Soldier

I'm a soldier marching home for to see my love and be alone with
I'm a soldier marching home this is what I have longed for.
Empty gun across my back last words in my pocket of my best friend Jack
He'd be marching by my side but yesterday he died.

Memories come flooding back of the friends I had and now I lack
Mothers sons were all of they what to them will I say
I have killed men that is war and those dead men ask me what they died for
I within cannot tell why. But for God did there go I.

Children lie here dead nearby they are silent now no battle cry
Wounded led there by their side, my pain I hide inside.
Poppies grow pon yonder hill they mark the spot where blood did spill
Wash you not away that spot lest those lives should be forgot.

Tears none left to cry for they for this war was long and I have paid
Floods of tears for everyone and for innocence undone
Look me not on all the graves I prefer to think of the lives I've saved
Care they not of what I've done. We have finished what was begun.

Queen Of Hearts

Come to my chamber said the Queen unto the man
And I will give my love to you as best I can
Look not on other for their love to give to you
No other lovers word you hear be spoke so true
As it was true I love you. As it was true I love you.

The man there bowed before her thrown did gently sigh
And raised his head thereon to look upon her eyes.
Within such beauty there, he hardly dared to breath.
Filled up his senses and he begged of her his leave
As it was true I love you. As it was true I love you.

Is not my Lord he pleased by favours of his queen
She asked of him as he was shattering her dream
No greater favour could your majesty allow
My love for you eternal but that time's not now.
As it was true I love you. As it was true I love you.

Dreams of memories of times yet to live he saw
As he withdrew to go and fight a bloody war
And knew he with the armour put upon his back
A worthy reason for to die he now not lacked
As it was true I love you. As it was true I love you.

That knight in shining armour rode upon his steed
To fight for men and country as his monarch had decreed
And there such bravery before had never been
As he despatched his foe the like had not been seen
As it was true I love you. As it was true I love you.

The battle almost won did fate take on a part
And cast an arrow down and through that love filled heart
High on the battlements his queen she saw him die
And learned she on that spot of true love's battle cry
As it was true I love you. As it was true I love you.
